After showing their talent in The X-Factor United Kingdom (UK) under the team of Simon Cowell in 2010, the British-Irish boy band named One Direction with members Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson have notched up an incredible 12 million sales worldwide in less than a year including 8 million singles, 3 million albums and a million DVDs. In celebration for their success Syco and Sony Music awarded them with a special disc.
With their debut album entitled Up All Night that had just released this last November 2011, the One Direction has sold over 3 million copies worldwide and has hit No.1 in 16 different countries, including the USA where they became the first ever UK band to debut at No.1 on the US Billboard chart. This makes the album as the top selling debut album of 2012 in the US.
Their album has 13 tracks including Gotta Be You, One Thing, More Than This, Up All Night, I Wish, Tell Me a Lie, Taken, I Want, Everything About You, Same Mistakes, Save You Tonight, Stole My Heart, and the hit song What Makes You Beautiful that sold over 3 million copies in the US and 5 million worldwide.
Up to date, One Direction will be performing at the MTV Video Music Awards on September 6 and they were nominated in two categories, Best Pop Act and Best Pop Video. While on December 3 they will play a special concert at Madison Square Garden in New York before embarking on a sell-out worldwide tour in 2013. They already receive three awards at the 2012 Teen Choice Awards including Choice Music Breakout Group, Choice Music Star Group and Choice Summer Song for ‘What Makes You Beautiful’.
While there’s no news yet on when they will be visiting the Philippines, fans can enjoy the songs of One Direction: Up All Night CD and Up All Night: The Live Tour DVD is now available in music stores nationwide distributed locally by Ivory Music & Video, the exclusive licensee of Sony Music in the Philippines.
