WFP signs MOA to strengthen DSWD’s Disaster Preparedness Capacity

After the resent typhoon that struckNorthern Mindanao, World Food Programme (WFP) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) in support of the Philippine Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to strengthen its Logistics Information System for Disaster Response Preparedness. The MOA signing happened at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) inMakatilast January 24. Present in the said activity were WFP Philippines Country Director and Representative Stephen Anderson and DSWD Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman. KC Concepcion, WFP’s National Ambassador Against Hunger was there to witness the strengthening of the partnership between WFP and DSWD.

The partnership was funded by the USAID/Office for Foreign Disaster Assistance that aims to use information and communication technologies to improve logistics information flow within DSWD, which will be of particular relevance in the immediate aftermath of natural disasters, providing the Philippine Government with timely and accurate information that will allow for swifter emergency responses.

Right now, WFP and DSWD works hand in hand in helping the families in Typhoon Sendong (Washi) stricken areas inMindanaowith the recovery program that includes food and nutrition, shelter, medicine and counseling.
