Hikaru Utada’s latest single, “Mine or Yours,” originally released in May, continues to make waves. Following the October 6 release of a remix by Yaeji, which quickly climbed to number one on Japan’s iTunes Dance Chart, the track is now set to appear on vinyl on November 26.
Today, Utada keeps the momentum going with the release of a second remix, “Mine or Yours (The Blessed Madonna’s GODSQUAD Mix),” crafted by internationally acclaimed DJ and producer The Blessed Madonna (formerly The Black Madonna). Known for her genre-defying sets blending house, techno, disco, and pop, The Blessed Madonna brings a distinctive energy to the remix.
Reflecting on the remix, she shared that she drew inspiration from her love of City Pop while reimagining Utada’s original track. She explained that she asked herself, “what would Paul Johnson do if he sampled this?” and built the remix from there, flipping the track in a way that would make it move on any dance floor. She added that working on the remix was an enormous honor, saying, “I am honored and humbled by your invitation and grace. Arigatou gozaimasu.”
Coinciding with the remix release, the official visualizer for “Mine or Yours (The Blessed Madonna’s GODSQUAD Mix)” is now live on YouTube. Directed by Kazuki Gotanda, the video vividly brings the remix to life through his distinctive visual style.
