GMA Pictures is set to deliver a spine-tingling cinematic experience as it premieres its latest psychological horror film, P77, in theaters nationwide starting July 30. In collaboration with GMA Public Affairs, the film promises to push the boundaries of horror by exploring the terrifying power of belief and the nightmares that come with it.
From the acclaimed creators behind Firefly, Green Bones, and the box office hit Mallari, P77 brings a gripping and suspenseful story to life. The film marks a significant milestone for Kapuso Primetime Princess Barbie Forteza as she takes on her first lead role in the horror genre. Known for her dramatic versatility, Forteza is expected to deliver a performance that is both emotionally powerful and deeply unsettling.
She is joined by a strong ensemble cast that includes award-winning child actor Euwenn Mikaell, best known for his role in Firefly, along with screen veterans Jackielou Blanco, Carlos Siguion-Reyna, Gina Pareño, and Rosanna Roces. Also part of the cast are Chrome Cosio and JC Alcantara.
The story centers on Luna, a cruise ship chambermaid who returns home to care for her ailing younger brother after their mother disappears without a trace. With no place to stay, the siblings secretly take shelter in an empty condominium unit. They soon discover that Penthouse 77 holds disturbing secrets that quickly unravel their sense of reality. What begins as a desperate search for safety turns into a terrifying descent into psychological horror.
Forteza shared her thoughts on what makes P77 different from other horror films. She explained that the story is grounded in real emotional struggles and explores the topic of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD. According to her, aside from the scares and suspense, the film aims to raise awareness and foster empathy for those who are coping with trauma.
The film is based on an original concept by Green Bones creators Anj Atienza and Kristian Julao. The screenplay was written by award-winning writer Enrico Santos and directed by Derick Cabrido, who has built a reputation for crafting intense and compelling thrillers. Cabrido previously directed the successful 2023 horror film Mallari.
GMA Pictures continues its tradition of producing memorable horror films. Previous titles such as The Road, Ouija, Basement, and Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles have earned praise from both audiences and critics. P77 is set to carry on this legacy by offering a unique psychological horror experience that combines emotional storytelling with chilling suspense.
The film will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures and will premiere in cinemas beginning July 30.
