Filipino music icon and cultural trailblazer Ice Seguerra is set to release his first all-original album titled Being Ice on August 8, marking what may be the most defining project of his nearly 40-year career. Leading up to the album’s release is the launch of the emotionally charged lead single “Shelter of the Broken”, which is available starting today, June 28, in celebration of Pride Day and Metro Manila’s largest LGBTQIA+ event.

More than a comeback, Being Ice represents several important firsts. It is Seguerra’s first full-length studio album released under the name Ice, and the first in which he takes full creative control, writing, shaping, and sharing a body of work that reflects his journey in its entirety.

“This is the most personal I’ve ever been,” Seguerra shares. “I’ve written songs before, but this is the first time I’m letting the world hear all of me—every fear, every hope, every truth—in one complete album.”

Over the past decade, Seguerra has grown beyond his role as a beloved performer. He has become a vocal advocate, a storyteller, and a queer trailblazer. His 2022 to 2023 concert Becoming Ice explored themes of identity and transition, selling out venues across the country. Now, Being Ice takes things further. If Becoming was about claiming space, Being is about fully inhabiting it, boldly, completely, and without apology.

Though fans have heard original releases like “‘Wag Kang Aalis” and “Walang Hanggang Paalam,” this is the first time Seguerra is releasing an album that is entirely his own. It is both a creative milestone and a long-awaited homecoming.

“This isn’t just another album,” says Liza Diño, Creative Producer at Fire & Ice. “This is a legacy moment. After decades of interpreting other people’s stories, Ice is finally telling his own.”

Seguerra reunites with longtime collaborator Jonathan Manalo, the country’s most-streamed songwriter and producer, and is joined by acclaimed artists Mike Villegas, Vince De Jesus, Trisha Denise, Ivan Lee Espinosa, and Diño herself. Together, they have crafted a genre-fluid, emotionally resonant album rooted in themes of love, identity, healing, and truth.

Originally titled I Am Ice, the project eventually evolved into something more meaningful. Being Ice is not just a declaration of identity but a commitment to authenticity. “It’s Ice stepping fully into who he is,” Diño says. “Authentically. Vulnerably. Brilliantly.”

Ten years in the making, Being Ice is Seguerra’s first original studio album since 2015’s Araw Gabi, and the first to fully reflect his identity both as an artist and as a person. The album explores his lived experiences with depression, grief, self-love, long-distance relationships, family, and queer joy.

The tracklist includes the following songs:

  • “Shelter of the Broken”, a mental health anthem written during the pandemic
  • “Ikaw Lang”, a song about long-distance love
  • “Nandiyan Ka”, a tribute to quiet, unconditional fatherly love
  • “Wag Na Lang Pala”, a bittersweet track about the friend zone
  • “Lost in Time”, about hidden love and stolen moments
  • “Ikaw Pala ’Yon”, which transforms a wedding vow into a song
  • “Natapos ang Lahat”, a ballad about enduring love beyond goodbye
  • “Anino”, a fearless anthem about coming out

A bonus track will be revealed soon.

The release of Shelter of the Broken on Pride Day holds special meaning. Written during a period of private struggle with depression, the song’s powerful refrain, “free me from the demons in my head,” serves as both a personal release and a universal lifeline. For Seguerra, who publicly came out as a transgender man in 2014, the timing underscores his deep commitment to visibility and healing through music.

To celebrate the album’s release, Being Ice: Live, a two-night concert event, will be held on September 12 and 13 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater. The show will feature Seguerra’s greatest hits, his musical influences, and the debut live performance of all the tracks from Being Ice. Structured into three acts titled The Roots, The Fire, and The Truth, the concert promises to be both a retrospective and a revelatory experience. Tickets are now available through TicketWorld.

Being Ice arrives at a pivotal moment for Original Pilipino Music, where deeply personal and artist-owned projects are taking center stage. In this evolving landscape, Seguerra’s album stands out as intimate, emotionally expansive, and proudly queer. For longtime fans, it is a heartfelt gift. For new listeners, it is an open invitation. And for Ice Seguerra himself, it is a powerful answer to a question he once asked quietly: Will you still love me if I stop hiding?

Release Schedule:

June 28 – “Shelter of the Broken” (lead single)
July 18 – “Wag Na Lang Pala” and “Nandiyan Ka”
August 8 – Being Ice (full album release)
September 12 and 13 – Being Ice: Live concert at Newport Performing Arts Theater
