A24 subtly parallels these two characters, showing that family is defined not by blood, but by those who truly see and accept us.

Distributed by Creazion Studios, The Legend of Ochi may leave some viewers puzzled by its abstract storytelling and sparse dialogue, but its emotional message remains clear and deeply moving. At its core is a touching narrative about connection, told through the parallel journeys of Yuri, a young girl who rescues Ochi, a mysterious creature she finds in the woods and tries to reunite with its family.

A24 masterfully creates a quiet parallel between these two outsiders, both searching for belonging, understanding, and love. Their growing bond shows that family isn’t always defined by blood; it’s found in those who truly see and accept us, whether human or not.

Though the plot may feel unclear at times, the film’s simple and relatable message about connection and chosen family holds strong throughout. With understated visuals and emotionally touching scenes, The Legend of Ochi is another heartfelt entry in A24’s collection.

Directed by Isaiah Saxon, The Legend of Ochi stars Helena Zengel (News of the World), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), Emily Watson (God’s Creatures), and Willem Dafoe (Poor Things and Nosferatu). The fantasy film is now showing in cinemas nationwide.
