It’s chaotic, it’s comical, and it’s inspiring. That’s the best way to describe the restaging of ‘Tick, Tick… Boom!’ in the Philippines, thanks to the 9Works Theatrical team. Currently running every Saturday and Sunday until the first weekend of September 2023 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in RCBC Plaza, Makati City.

Imagine the intense costume changes and shifting from one character to another. Actors who mainly play Susan (Tanya Manalang and K-La Rivera) and Michael (Reb Atadero and Vien King) deliver their side characters perfectly, adding chaos to Jon’s (Jet Flores and Khalil Ramos) world. Everyone will surely relate to Jon’s early mid-life crisis, because we’ve all been there, and some are on their way and processing it.

You should watch how the simple, messy room of Jon gives an ‘Inception-like’ representation of how broken he is. It’s similar to how we always picture ourselves, especially when anxiety attacks.

The play provides us with the perfect combination of chaos and comedy that keeps us interested in every character, including their side roles.

But of course, life must go on, and so must we. That’s how Tick, Tick… Boom reminds everyone that time is not going to wait for us. But it’s okay to give ourselves permission to pause, recharge, and then continue the hustle. A one-act musical play filled with emotions and scenarios, and in every emotion and scenario, we find ourselves. In my case, I was at the crossroads of life, still searching for my worth, just like Jon. Aren’t we all?

Kudos to 9Works Theatrical for bringing back Tick, Tick… Boom and breathing life into Philippine theater after more than three years of the pandemic. Tick, Tick… Boom is the right content that everyone needs.
