Darna flies back to the big screen after 22 years

In celebration of the 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival, Star Cinema movies All You Need Is Pag-Ibig and Beauty and the Bestie unveil the teaser of the much-awaited return of Darna in the big screen. With 2016 caption in the symbol of Darna (the winged tiara) it gives everyone the excitement to see her fly again in silver screen since the last film was in 1994, it was under Viva Films with Anjanette Abayari and Peque Gallaga and Lore Reyes directed it.

With no definite actress to portray the role yet after Angel Locsin announced that she would no longer be Darna because of an injury, fans still wanted her to do the character and suggested that she can get double on stunts she can no longer do. While others wanted their idols to do the characters including Jessy Mendiola, Bea Alonzo, Anne Curtis, Erich Gonzales, Iya Villania, Iza Calzado, Sarah Geronimo, Julia Montes, KC Concepcion, Kim Chiu, Maja Salvador, Liza Soberano, Nadine Lustre, Kathryn Bernardo and Cristine Reyes.

In the teaser created by Star Cinema with the director Erik Matti, it shows a trackback of the disasters and wars that Filipinos experience up to the present. In the last part there was a erupting Volcano and people rushing to escape from it until there was a woman running in her red hoodie while running her clothes were burning and later revealed the red bikini adorned by gold stars and same as the red helmet with the winged tiara with ruby in the center and flies going straight to the volcano. And the new golden logo was revealed.

Aside from Angel and Anjanette, other personalities who played Darna in both TV and movie were Vilma Santos, Marian Rivera, Sharon Cuneta, Nanette Medved. Gina Pareño, and even Dolphy for the Darna Kuno spin-off. Darna was created by writer Mars Ravelo and artist Nestor Redondo. Her first appearance was in Pilipino Komiks in 1950 and first movie adaptation was in 1951 played by Rosa Del Rosario under Royal Films and directed by Fernando Poe, Sr.

Darna is a heroine that emerges from Narda after swallowing the white stone that gives her superhuman strength. Her main nemesis includes Valentina the goddess of the snake who resembles to Medusa a creature with a snake hair.
