The internet will forever be labelled as a source of immediate distraction. Despite its inherent usefulness, it’s also incredibly easy to get lost in the online space when you’re meant to buckle down and get work done instead. Our will power weakens and is limited in the vastness of the online space, and so, it’s easy to lose track of initial goals when aiming to get work done. However, by following the tips and tricks we’ve compiled below, you’re set for a future of efficiency and distraction-free work.

Block Time-Wasting Sites

The StayFocusd Web App is one of the most useful tools for the easily distracted among us. Once downloaded on Chrome, you can easily target the sites which seem to be the cause of your most frequent distraction. For instance, if Facebook is your source of wasted time, go to the site, then click on the StayFocusd app in your toolbar. A drop-down menu will give you the option to block this entire site so that it’s no longer accessible to your idle needs. Additionally, you can still have a few minutes of time when the site is active before it’s blocked entirely. After all, you won’t necessarily be working the entire time. It creates a healthy balance between work with the availability of some web-surfing fun, which improves productivity and ensures you’re not left wasting too much time overall.

Plan Your Internet Usage

Before settling in for work, set out an intention for your time online. Doing this will create structure, which is necessary if your goal is to avoid idle time. For instance, you can plan to work for 3 hours, with 15 minute breaks in between each hour to either browse or play a game of your choice. Limit your social media time to 10 minutes every hour. or play a game on PGBingo; it is a bingo game which, by the way, you can find many new bingo sites today just like it online. Outlining a schedule and pre-planning allows for a much more structured approach to your time online and your work expectations.

Stop Checking Your Emails

When logging into their computers, most people prioritize checking their emails as a first course of action. However, this can take up loads of unnecessary time. In responding to emails, clearing out spam and, sifting through promotional correspondence, it’s easy to lose track of time. Set a specified timeframe for checking your emails, whether it’s once a day in the morning or for a few minutes throughout the day. By freeing that activity from your online pursuits, you’ll have more focus for the things that count; your work.

Turn it Off!

Sometimes, when inspiration is low and you’re just not in the groove of getting work done, it might be best to simply shut off your computer and decompress. A little distance helps to reassess the problem and get the creative juices flowing. Instead of wasting time browsing or spending too much time being unproductive online, it might beneficial for you to shut off your computer and take a well-deserved breather.

Falling into the trap of distraction online is not conducive to efficiency and productivity. To the dismay of many, the online space is a vast and exciting one, leaving us to wander from our important tasks in search of the next best game or piece of information we can get our hands on. However, with the delineated tips and tricks, you can find yourself productive in no-time. And thus, wasting precious time online will no longer be the due cause of your unproductive days.
