We all love to eat but sometimes being not too cautious of what we are eating lead to a not so healthy lifestyle and adds extra weight that slows us down from our everyday activity. Daniel Matsunaga became an inspiration to all of us during his stay in the Pinoy Big Brother House because of how he takes challenges both physical and mental with a strong body and mind. Aside from the physical activities that make him stronger, he also relies on diet. So here are the five common protein rich meals that are best to have to make us strong:

1. Lean Meat – 85 grams of cooked pork without fat of course contains 16 grams of protein plus it contains thiamin or vitamin B that plays a major role in carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism. Meanwhile for those who are into white meat or chicken/turkey meat particularly the breast part with no skin, 85 grams has 26 grams of protein and amino acid tryptophan to help you sleep. We all know sleep depravation leads to stress eating or excessive cravings.

2. Eggs – it will always be one of the main ingredients of most of our favorite pastries and cakes and of course breakfast will never be complete without a sunny side up. But for those aiming for a fit and stronger body, 1 large egg has 6 grams of protein, and is a great source of vitamin D for bone health and prevention of chronic diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular disease. A hard boiled egg in the morning only has 80 calories but heavy on the stomach which minimizes cravings too.

3. Lentils – for those who want to have fewer carbohydrates and more on protein. Lentils will always be one of the best options especially those incline to vegetarian dishes. ½ cup provides 9 grams of protein. Aside from that, lentils boost high levels of dietary fiber to support healthy cholesterol levels, and iron to transport oxygen around the body.

4. Grainy and wheat bread – another good substitute for rice are the grainy and wheat bread. 1 slice contains 3 grams which also contains dietary fiber to help keep with regular bowel movement and B vitamins which are vital for nervous system health and for making energy.

San-Marino

5. Fish – this is the most popular for those who want to get enough protein for their diet. 85 grams of cooked salmon contains 19 grams of protein while a cooked 100 grams of Bluefin Tuna contains 30 grams of protein. But of course aside from being pricey, salmon and tuna are rare in the market unless in big stores. And the best option is a 180 gram can of the new San Marino Tuna Flakes which is Daniel’s favorite. This newest brand of tuna flakes in oil contains 32 grams of protein per can and contains Omega-3 DHA that’s good for the heart and metabolism. (Check out the green label with the Protein for Life logo so you know you’re buying the right brand of tuna flakes!) Aside from being affordable you can buy it at any convenient store and groceries nationwide. It comes in an easy to open can so you can bring it anywhere you are and eat it anytime you want to.

Aside from the food and exercise, another way to remain fit and healthy is to have a positive outlook in life. With the right goal, discipline and determination we can achieve anything we want just like Daniel Matsunaga, the newest big winner of PBB and now venturing on another level of his career as model, host, commercial endorser and actor.
