From the success of Grease last November 2013, 9 Works Theatrical returns as they celebrate their 5th year as one of the theater companies in the Philippines with a heartwarming story entitled The Last Five Years. It will star a 9 Works regular Nikki Gil who became the lead in Sweet Charity and They’re Playing Our Song. Joining Nikki is another theater veteran and filmmaker Joaquin Valdes. It will be staged at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in RCBC Plaza in Makati City in all Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays of August.
The Last 5 Years is an Off-Broadway musical created by Jason Robert Brown. It follows the journey of two characters Cathy Hyatt a struggling actress and Jamie Wellerstein a novelist who was once a couple and now taking their path on a separate ways. We will discover each other’s heartaches and their journey of moving on with their lives. And with Nikki’s versatility as an actress which we saw in her first two plays in 9 Works it will be fresh for theater goers to see another character like Cathy facing a big leap in her life and that is letting go of her love and the past in as she hopes better beginning. It also goes with Joaquin that we saw in various straight dramatic plays like Red which The Last 5 Years will showcase his dramatic skills including his musicality as Jamie.
