After recently regaining the WBO Welterweight belt last April after his fight against Timothy Bradley Jr., boxing champion, product endorser and Representative for Saranggani Manny Pacquaio recently signed with Kia Motors as their head coach as they entered in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
The said announcement was done earlier this afternoon at the Salvatore Lounge of the Pacific Star Building, where the PBA Commissioner Chito Salud, Columbian Autocar Corporation President Ginia Domingo, and KIA Motors chairman and Palawan Governor Jose Chavez Alvarez were there to join the said confirmation to the media. Even Pacquaio is known to be a boxing icon, he is considered a person who has passion to basketball whereas he formerly owned MP Gensan Warriors team in the Liga Pilipinas from 2005 until 2015.
With Manny Pacquiao’s charisma and influence to everyone he will surely inspire the team and get support to them. Which according to Pacquaio, basketball is similar to boxing which the main objective is to put strength in offense at the same time guarding the defense side which surely strengthen the team.
The Team KIA is one of the three additional of team for PBA including NLEX Road Warriors and Blackwater Sports. The three teams were approved last April as PBA additional team to the strong and veteran teams including Air 21 Express, Alaska Acers, Barako Bull Energy Cola, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, Global Port Batang Pier, Meralco Bolts, San Miguel Beermen, Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, San Miguel Super Coffee Mixers, and Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters.
Team Kia will be entering the PBA game on its 40th season on October 2014.
