After bridging his way from independent cinema to mainstream Coco Martin had proven himself as one of the ABS-CBN’s Primetime Princes with the top-rating teleserye Walang Hanggan but before that he already showed his acting skills in the mainstream with teleseryes like Ligaw na Bulaklak, Tayong Dalawa, Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo and Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin. Still doing independent film is Coco’s first love where he appeared in Tambolista, Jay, Serbis, Kinatay and his last indie film Noy.

With his versatility in acting and portraying roles, Coco won awards and recognitions including Golden Screen Award, Gawad Urian Award, Gawad PASADO, Star Awards for Television, Gawad Tanglaw Awards, Guillermo Mendoza Awards, KBP Golden Dove Awards, FAMAS Awards, Anak TV Seal Awards, Star Awards for Movies, and Yahoo! OMG Awards.

Now as he returns to indie film for Sta. Niña this is one of the finalists of the 2012 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival for the New Breed Full-Length Feature category. With Allesandra de Rossi, Anita Linda, Irma Adlawan, Leo Martinez and Nanding Josef, Sta. Niña is set after Paulino “Pol” Mungcal (Martin) who unexpectedly digs up the remains of her 2-year old daughter named Marikit in a lahar-filled quarry. Seeing no sign of decay in the remains of his deceased daughter he thought it was a miracle that will change the lives of his family. But there’s more miracle that he need in his community including his wounded soul.

Sta. Niña was directed by Emmanuel Quindo Palo and will be showing in Cultural Center of the Philippines, Greenbelt 3 and TriNoma Mall from July 20-29, 2012.
