In line with the opening of the new SM Arena at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasig City where Lady Gaga and Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block performed recently, ABS-CBN and SM with the help of President of Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM) Ogie Alcasid, they unite OPM icons and performers on a one night only concert entitled Icons at the Mall of Asia Arena Concert. This concert brings OPM artists and their followers to celebrate the wonderful music of OPM and also pay tribute to the pillars of the Philippine music industry.
The two-hour concert was hosted by Pop Fernandez and Jim Paredes. Filipino performers included at the Icons at the Mall of Asia Arena Concert were Lea Salonga, Arnel Pineda, Basil Valdez, Martin Nievera, Erik Santos, Richard Poon, Juris, Freddie Aguilar, Ryan Cayabyab, Jose Mari Chan, Piolo Pascual, Dulce, Rachelle Alejandro, Regine Velasquez, Ogie Alcasid, Pokwang, Wally, Jose Manalo, Gary Valenciano, Bamboo, Vernie Varga and Jed Madela. It was a night of diverse music that tackles love for special someone, love for country, family, friendship as presented through ballad, novelty, R&B, pop and alternative rock.
