From Message in a Bottle (1999), A Walk to Remember (2002), The Notebook (2004), Nights in Rodanthe (2008), Dear John (2010) and The Last Song (2010), another brilliant novel of Nicholas Sparks hits the big screen and it stars Zac Efron and Taylor Schilling. Now showing in all cinemas nationwide, The Lucky One was directed by Scott Hicks and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
The romantic film adaptation follows Logan Thibault (Efron), a U.S. Marine in search for the person who is the picture that saves him after the explosion in Iraq. The woman who was supposed to be Beth (Schilling) is the owner of local kennel in Hampton. From being a stranger to lovers, Logan and Beth face the dilemma of the past including the real owner of the photo before Logan found it and Beth’s ex husband that keeps on controlling her and making her life miserable. Will they be truly the “Lucky One” for each other?
The Lucky One is a type of film/novel that gives inspiration for those who looks for closure from the past, facing the problem that burdens them and finding love even in hopeless or unexpected places. The plot is very simple but the twist and how it was executed makes it more beautiful and exciting. A soldier coming from a war with a wounded spirit finds hope in photo of a girl that saves him and with love they themselves in each one’s arm… but complication started to come in because of the past that haunts them. And with that it created an exciting plot that will really hook the movie goers in every scene.
Aside from the storyline this was the first time to see Zac Efron doing a mature role which he was stereotyped as boy next door who can break to a song or dance anytime because of the High School Musical and Hairspray. The film brings a new Zac, new built and older that can fit to deeper roles but of course he still has those sparkling eyes that are sometimes awkward on serious scenes.
Still The Lucky One offers a good combination of love, excitement and the perfect chemistry of the two main characters that fits for a romantic film that caters mostly to couples who loves movie date.
The film also stars Jay R. Ferguson, and Blythe Danner and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
