Twelve years since it was first introduced in the viewers of the Kapamilya Network, ABS-CBN will be bringing back the “Himig Handog” Songwriting Competition to talented composers whose works are set to be the next OPM classics. The full mechanics of this contest along with the registration and submission of entries will be announced soon on ABS-CBN and in its all platforms and subsidiary.
It was in 2000 when ABS-CBN introduced the Himig Handong Songwriting Competition to pay tribute to the Bagong Bayani which is the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) having the title “Himig Handog sa Bayaning Pilipino”. After a year in 2001, ABS-CBN celebrates the youth power with the “JAM: Himig Handog sa Makabagong Kabataan 2001” to bring out the best on young talented composers and to make OPM closer to the hearts of the Filipino youth. Then on 2002 and 2003, ABS-CBN challenges the romantic side of the Filipino composers as the Kapamilya Network launches the “Himig Handog Love Songs.” Continuing the legacy of finding to romantic side of every composer young, adult and emerging the Himig Handog 2012 theme is love songs.
So for the aspiring amateur and professional Filipino songwriters, here and abroad, start preparing your entries as the 5th Himig Handog will kick off very soon!
