MTRCB rates Columbia Pictures’ “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” R-18

Before it premieres on selected cinemas nationwide on February 1, Columbia Pictures and an Oscar-nominated thriller “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” was given R-18 rating by the Movies & Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB). The film is a remake of a Swedish movie entitled Män som hatar kvinnor which means Men Who Hate Women that is based from first of the trilogy novel of Stieg Larsson called the Millennium series. Staring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, the film was directed by David Fincher.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo follows Mikael Blomkvist (Craig), a co-owner of “Millennium” magazine and recently lost a libel case against a crooked businessman forcing their company to pay huge court-ordered monetary damages to the alleged victim. While a researcher f or Milton Security and computer hacker named Lisbeth Salander (Mara) has performed an extensive background check on Blomkvist and sighted that the magazine owner “clean” despite of the anomalies connected to his name. But more stories unfold that will lead to various scandals, lies and betrayal.

The film shows various sensitive scenes that lead to the rating of R-18 by the MTRCB. Scenes include dark themes and graphic scenes of sexual assault, violence and nudity where it will be suitable to mature viewers which is at least 18 years old and above. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo earned nominations from the 84th Academy Awards including Best Actress (Rooney Mara), Best Cinematography, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing and Best Film Editing.

Opening in selected cinemas nationwide, it also stars Christopher Plummer, Stellan Skarsgård, Steven Berkoff, Robin Wright, Yorick van Wageningen and Joely Richardson.
