After its huge success and acceptance the theater aficionados last February 2010 at the Insular Life Theater in Alabang, CTE Productions and Theater Mogul brings back to Manila the 1991 hit one man theater play written by Rob Becker entitled Defending the Cavemen. The comedy that was performed in almost 45 countries and translated in 16 languages will be presented at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in RCBC Plaza, Makati City on May 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2011. Starring Joel Trinidad and directed by Michael Williams and Cathy Azanza-Dy.

Defending the Cavemen is a blend of one stand comedy and “therapy session” among both sexes to discover where differences and misunderstanding does begins and how each one can resolve or understand it. Unlike other gender based play or concept, Caveman aims to discuss the view of males, at the same time remains sympathetic to the concerns of the females. It shows that men do have emotional side but not as obvious and similar to what women does.

I had the chance to see Trinidad performed before the actual performance on May 6-21, doing a one man act talking lot of things about the male gender and shifting to female concerns sometime is really hard. It really needs of too much strength and guts to do it knowing that the audience is a mixture of both genders which others may react negatively or positively in the lines he will be saying on stage. As for the set, it is truly a caveman set up; the rock made like sofa chair, refrigerator, television and spear which really adds to the atmosphere of the play as accessories in the “cave” of the cavemen.

Rob Becker’s Defending the Caveman will run on May 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium RCBC Plaza in Makati City. Ticket costs P1, 200 (orchestra center), P1, 000 (orchestra side aisle seats), P600 (orchestra side), P500 (loge) and P300 (balcony). Tickets are available on TicketWorld, call 891.9999 or log on to www.ticketworld.com.ph. Ticket buyers can also call 215.0788 or 0917.537.8313 or email [email protected].
