It’s colorful and it’s funny. 20th Century Fox proves that there after the Ice Age franchise Rio is the next animation movie that is worth watching especially for kids and kids at heart. Directed by Carlos Saldanha, the feathered (others are not) animation movie features the voices of Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway, Rodrigo Santoro, Bebel Gilberto, Kate del Castillo, Jamie Foxx, will.i.am, Tracy Morgan, George Lopez, Jake T. Austin, Leslie Mann, Jemaine Clement, Jane Lynch, and Robin Thicke. It is now showing in all cinemas nationwide (as of April 7), available in 3D, IMAX and regular format.

Being a huge fan of Angry Birds, an iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch application that is also now out in android for Rio version; it is fun to see characters in wings that we use to play to be on big screen. But of course it is not exactly the Angry Birds which is the game to be on the movie but their resemblances. Rio follows the success of the Ice Age franchise that was created also by Blue Sky Studio. It follows the journey of Blu (Eisenberg), a blue macaw to return to his homeland in Brazil to see his original habitat and to reproduce. He met Jewel (Hathaway) a female specie that will be Blu’s mate unfortunately being an exotic winged creature like other birds found in Brazil particularly in the beautiful state of Rio de Janerio which is a combination of residential and vegetation most of the birds like the blue macaws where captured and illegally sold. And Blu with Jewel is one of those and they need to escaped and save others too.

Like what I said, I had fun watching it because of the vibrant colors of the birds that was used in the animation especially in most of the musical part. The combination of colors and music gives the viewers how vibrant is the carnival event in Rio and to a wider perspective the colorful culture of Brazil.

Being an animation, it gives excuse to technical side, but more on the storyline. The story may be simple, discovering the roots, falling in love, being a hero and to live a very happy ending. It might sound simple, but in between those highlights, Rio never had a dull moment in terms phasing and execution of scenes, especially the part of the secondary characters like Rafael (Lopez), Luiz (Morgan), Pedro (Will.i.am) and Nico (Foxx). The choice of music was great and it blends perfectly in most of the scenes. Here is a spoiler the opening was great and same with the meeting of Luiz with the rest of the winged creatures.

Rio opens on April 7 in all theaters nationwide. Available in 3D and regular format from Blue Sky an animation production under 20th Century Fox and distributed by Warner Bros Pictures.
