Who can even forget Taraji P. Henson in her portrayal as the adoptive mother of Bejamin Button played by Bratt Pitt in the The Curious Case of Benjamin Button where she received an Academy Award Nomination for that movie. Now with Columbia Pictures Taraji returns as the mother of Jaden Smith in The Karate Kid with Jackie Chan and directed by Harald Zwart. The action family film is now showing in all cinemas nationwide.

The film is about the journey of 12-year-old Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) a popular kid in Detroit who was forced to travel and live in China with her mother, Sherry (Taraji P. Henson) because of his mom’s work requirement. Being new with the community, Dre experience disapproval among the kids that ends up bullying until he met Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) who comes to his aid and teaches him Kung Fu as self defense and for the tournament where Dre promised Mr. Han that he will be joining in exchange for the Kung Fu trainings.

As for Taraji she enjoys doing the film where it reminds her relationship she has with her own son. “We’re great friends, because it’s just the two of us, and that’s the thing that spoke to me when I read the script,” she says. To Taraji she sees the character of Sherry having a big parental role where she gives strong support to Dre in the film.

She also praised Jaden’s parents Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith, according to her they raised Jaden well as good son. “We had three weeks of rehearsals before we went to China. Both Will and Jada created such a comfortable environment for Jaden and I to bond,” she ended.
