December 4, in Tribeca Function Room, Astoria Hotel, Escriva Ave., Ortigas Center, Pasig City, the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) headed by Bam Aquino, with Coca Cola Foundation and Senator Kiko Pangilinan awarded CNN Hero of The Year and Education Advocate Efren Penaflorinda and his fellow volunteers of Dynamic Teen Company in their Klassrum Kariton Project or Push-cart Education in Cavite City.
Kuya Efren won as the 2009 CNN Hero of the year among the other 9 honorees who are community servants and advocates which he was awarded 100, 000 US Dollars along with the 25,000 USD that is given to the 10 honorees of the CNN Heroes 2009. Then event was held at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood last November 22 for the CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute and the award was presented to him by Eva Mendez.
Aside from TAYO, Senator Pangilinan and Coca Cola Foundation gives recognition to Efren; Senator Pangilinan gives the certificate that the Senate passed in honor of him, and Coca Cola Foundation gives a plaque to Efren as their salute to the efforts done by Efren by reaching out the children of Cavite who is unfortunate to have proper education.
The project that Kuya Efren initiated in Cavite started in 1997 with only 17 vounteers, DTC is under Club 8586. And now DTC’s activity is done every Saturday in 4 locations; 8am Cavite Market, 10am Cavite City Cemetery, 1pm Cavity City Dump site and 3pm Badjao Community. They only have 4 push carts which contains Philippine flag, blackboard, reading materials, toys, pencils, chalks, flash cards and others. Majority of the volunteers are High School students of from Cavite and education major under graduates.

The cash prize that Efren received will be divided to the expansion of Klasrum Kariton and learning center that he plans to build along with shelter, and the remaining amount will be given to the church.
