Eradicate Hunger with Gawad Kalinga’s Bayan-Anihan
Posted by FlowJul 13

Last July 8, 2009 at the Gawad Kalinga Selecta Village in Cainta Rizal, Tony Meloto, founder of Gawad Kalinga and other supporters of GK launches the new program that will help the Filipinos aside from having a shelter, they can fight against hunger. Gawad Kalinga launches Bayan-Anihan, a project that will help our fellow Filipinos to work hard for their food and not by just giving it to them. As an old Chinese Proverbs says “Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for the rest of his life.” With the help of Gawad Kalinga and the people who believes and support it’s plight, Bayan Anihan aims to use the idle land for agricultural and teach the families of Gawad Kalinga villages to cultivate the land for their benefit.
Poverty, lack of shelter and hunger, are the major issues that Gawad Kalinga wanted to solve, from the houses that they help to built with GK volunteers, Gawad Kalinga also encourages it’s volunteer to take part of this new project and that is becoming Hunger Warriors, being a hunger warrior is like builders who help to build houses, this time you became evangelizers of Bayan Anihan and helping the families in cultivating their land where it will become their source of food.
Mike Dimaguiba also mention on his talk on how Filipinos can help to fight hunger and poverty. Watch the video below.
I was given a chance to interview Gawad Kalinga’s Tony Meloto he shares the brief background on why he created the group and what are his other plans to help others who are in need.
Let’s help to fight against hunger, visit http://bayananihan.com for updates on how you can participate on this campaign.

I would like to register as a volunteer for Gawad Kalinga. After the recent typhoon disasters in the Philippines, 4 of my cousin’s were badly affected, 2 of them lost their home. Thanks to families, friends and our local community in Australia, we are able to help with sending funds, perishable items such as long-life milk, rice, noodles, sweets and so on. They are currently building their home. I am hoping to help others not just my families and would like to volunteer my time, raise awarenes in Australia and raise funds. I am 37 years old and currently studying full-time. Your response is greatly appreciated.
